Interview with Byron Rodgers on the EP Expo

In our interview with Byron Rodgers, he’s breaking down the exciting EP Expo, what visitors can expect when they attend, and much more.

What part of the conference are you most looking forward to?

The aspect I love most about events like this, and what I’m really looking forward to at this conference, is the opportunity to bring people together. When I started the Executive Protection Lifestyle Podcast, I genuinely thought I’d eventually run out of people to interview.

However, the reality is that there are so many incredible individuals in our industry who are doing amazing work but remain largely unknown. I find immense joy and honor in facilitating the gathering of civilian and professional protectors, fostering networks, and sharing experiences.

At our school, we have forged lifelong relationships through training and working with one another. I wanted to create an event that wasn’t just a conference but also a venue where people can engage in activities together, have meaningful conversations about our profession, and build relationships that go beyond business—they can become friends. I believe our industry can benefit greatly from appreciating the relational aspect of business and protection.

As the main driving force behind the event, what inspired you to create it?

As I observed the industry, I noticed a plethora of conferences. Being a hands-on guy with a background as an infantryman and athlete, I wanted something more engaging and active. Conferences are fantastic—I love attending them and do so frequently—but I aimed to contribute to our industry from a different angle.

Often, I leave conferences with a massive stack of business cards, which sometimes leads to business, but it can be difficult to remember the individual behind the card because no memorable experience was created together. At this event, attendees will navigate four different environments, each designed to foster connections and familiarity in unique ways.

I wanted to create a more engaging venue that encourages camaraderie, offers a good time, and provides opportunities for certifications and memory-making that can forge personal and professional relationships. After all, business is the commerce of relationships.

How do you ensure the quality and relevance of the training provided during the event?

Regarding training at the event, attendees will have the opportunity to acquire a standard first aid, AED, and TECC certification package by the end of the weekend. I consider medical knowledge one of the most crucial hard skills for professional protectors, and it’s also highly marketable. Given the value of these certifications, I felt it was the best choice for our time window at this event.

On the same day, we’ll host the PROTECTOR GAMES, where participants will navigate a multi-stage course for some fun and friendly competition. Attendees will have to choose between obtaining the medical certifications or participating in the course. The Protector Games are designed to test various aspects of professional protection and hard skills. This is balanced by the second day of the event, which is dedicated solely to skill development.

Every evening, we’ll have fellowship events, allowing attendees to relax after training and engage in conversations with our subject matter experts. These gatherings will be held at specific venues, providing the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know one another better.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I am excited about this conference because it offers a unique blend of hands-on engagement and professional development. It’s not just about attending sessions or collecting business cards; it’s about building real, lasting relationships and creating memorable experiences that will strengthen our community. I look forward to seeing you there and sharing this amazing experience with everyone.
