What part of the conference are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to the speaking engagements and networking aspects of this event. Knowledge transfer is of paramount importance when it comes to learning to operate within the industry. The quality of personnel speaking will provide excellent insight into being successful in the industry. Most of our roles are very dynamic. It is difficult to teach security. Learning comes from personal, or other experience.
That being said, networking provides opportunities. Expanding your network is essential to success in this industry. The more people you know, the more opportunities become available to you. An event like this will provide an essential networking opportunity, which is the most important part of events such as this.
Which skills have you identified are key when first starting a role in event security?
When it comes to event security, it is essential to understand people. Specifically, understanding crowds of people. Human behavior changes drastically in numbers. Events typically contain greater numbers of people present. When working events, you are not only responsible for the safety and security of your clients and principals but the general public as well.
Another crucial aspect of event security is proper advancing. Becoming familiar with your venue provides you with reactionary options, as well as convenience for yourself and your principals. Route planning within the venue and exit strategies create safe and secure movements in times of crisis.
With over 100 events managed in more than 12 countries, what achievement are you most proud of in your career so far?
As far as personal achievements go, I am most proud of the network and reputation I have established thus far. I have had the chance to meet so many interesting people, spanning many countries. I always try to establish relationships and leave a lasting impression wherever I go.
I now have incredible friendships all over the world. This has provided me with many unique opportunities. It has also provided me with a solid reputation within the industry, which is very important to me personally, and professionally. This has become essential for the development of my own company and ensures that I always have other potential career opportunities.
