Dave Chappelle attacked: Video footage shows the exact moment the suspect tackles the comedian during his Hollywood Bowl performance.
Dave Chappelle was attacked after a man ran up and tackled him mid-performance at the Hollywood Bowl. The moment the suspect runs up on stage and attacks the star is evident.
The attacker, a 23-year-old man, runs onstage, pointing a replica handgun containing a knife blade at the star. Audience members filmed the entire ordeal, quickly flooding social media with evidence of the incident.
From the footage, we see Chappelle is falling backward but quickly frees himself just as security rushes over to grab the attacker. The staff swiftly surrounds and tackles the man to the rear corner of the stage.
Furthermore, news media footage shows the attacker on a gurney as paramedics load him into an ambulance for unspecified injuries.
According to a police statement, the tackle did not injure Dave Chappelle. Moreover, the suspect was taken into custody Tuesday night, booking him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The attacker is being held on a $30,000 bail, as claimed by LAPD booking records. What motivated him to run onto the stage remains unclear.
The incident is unsettling; however, it should not overshadow this record-breaking performance at the Hollywood Bowl. What’s more, the media reports that the comedian kept on with the show, working with Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock to humor the crowd.
